# Quota

Set a maximum storage capacity for a Stook Bucket.

Configure a storage quota to limit the amount of data that can be stored in a Stook Bucket.

When the Stook Bucket reaches its configured quota, new uploads are refused. Objects already stored in the bucket remain available and are not removed or modified.

{% hint style="info" %}
Quota changes may take up to 10 minutes to take effect. After increasing a quota or deleting objects, new uploads may continue to be refused until the updated storage usage is applied.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
For complete request parameters, response schemas, and error responses, see [Bucket Settings API](/api-documentation/object-storage-stook/buckets/settings.md).
{% endhint %}

## How Quota Works

When **Quota** is enabled, the configured size defines the maximum storage capacity of the Stook Bucket.

The following behavior applies:

* Uploads that would exceed the quota are refused with the `QuotaExceeded` error code.
* Existing objects remain available for read and delete operations.
* Deleting stored data frees capacity for new uploads.
* You can configure a quota lower than the bucket's current storage usage. Existing data remains available, but new uploads are refused until usage falls below the configured quota.
* In a versioned Stook Bucket, previous object versions also count toward the quota.

Deleting an object from a versioned bucket adds a delete marker and does not necessarily free storage capacity. Storage is freed when the corresponding object versions are permanently deleted.

## Configure Quota

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### **Open the Stook Bucket**

In the [Medianova Control Panel](https://cloud.medianova.com), select **Stook Object Storage → Buckets**, then select the Stook Bucket you want to configure.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Open Quota**

On the **Bucket configuration** page, select **Quota**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Enable Quota**

Turn on **Enabled**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Set the storage capacity**

Enter the maximum storage capacity in **Size**.

The Control Panel displays the quota size in GB.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Save the configuration**

Select **Save Changes**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Configuration Fields

<table><thead><tr><th width="115.2000732421875">Field</th><th width="511.800048828125">Description</th><th>Default</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Enabled</strong></td><td>Enables or disables the storage quota for the Stook Bucket.</td><td>Off</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Size</strong></td><td>Maximum storage capacity of the Stook Bucket, in GB. Required when Quota is enabled.</td><td>—</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Disable Quota

To remove the storage limit:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### **Open Quota**

On the **Bucket configuration** page, select **Quota**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Disable Quota**

Turn off **Enabled**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Save the configuration**

Select **Save Changes**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

The Stook Bucket no longer has a configured storage quota.

## Configure Quota with the API

Use the bucket settings endpoint to configure Quota:

```http
PATCH /api/v2/stook/{organization_uuid}/bucket/{bucket_uuid}/settings
```

Send:

```json
{
  "is_quota": true,
  "quota_size": 5368709120
}
```

The request enables Quota and sets the maximum storage capacity.

The `quota_size` value is specified in bytes. In this example, `5368709120` bytes represents 5 GiB.

To disable Quota, send:

```json
{
  "is_quota": false
}
```

## Troubleshooting

## Quota cannot be enabled

A storage size is required when **Quota** is enabled.

Enter a value in **Size**, then save the configuration.

## Quota size is invalid

The quota must be greater than `0` bytes.

Enter a valid storage size, or disable **Quota** if the Stook Bucket should not have a storage limit.

## Quota exceeds the supported maximum

The maximum supported quota is 8 PB.

Configure a smaller value and save the configuration.

### Uploads fail with QuotaExceeded

The Stook Bucket has reached its configured quota.

Delete objects that are no longer required or increase the quota. Allow up to 10 minutes for the updated storage usage or quota to take effect.

If Versioning is enabled, previous object versions also consume storage capacity and may need to be permanently deleted before space becomes available.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://clients.medianova.com/products/object-storage-stook/bucket-configuration/quota.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
